Dahlia Seed
Dahlias can be grown from seed. All dahlias start as seeds and blossom either into single petal cuties or something full and spectacular. In fact one of my highest profiting dahlia cuts— I plan to keep and name— was grown from seed! And florists love it because no one else has it!
Not all dahlia seeds are winners, but all seeds have potential to be absolutely magical. Start indoors 4-6 weeks before planting outside, after soil has warmed and chance of frost is past. Each seedling will make a group of roots (known as a clump) of tubers that can be lifted, saved, and divided, year after year for replanting.
These photos are seedlings we have discovered in our seed collection!… or parents of the seeds we have collected. You may be able to expect similar varieties. Remember—if you love it, dig up the tubers in the fall and overwinter them to come back true year after year!
Approximate Seeds Per Packet: 25-30 Seeds, (measured by the 1/4 tsp—when counted seeds always counted higher than 30 seeds).
Each Packet contains detailed growing information to make your gardening journey just a little bit easier.
Approximate Germination Time: 10-14 Days
Days to Maturity: 120 Days
Height: 36-45” per average
